VinoChallenge International
This year VinoChallege International 2008 carries forward a 27-year tradition as the first international wine competition in the United States. Over the last two decades the competition has evolved to meet the changing needs of our participating wineries in the worldwide environment. Today, as one of the largest international wine competitions held outside of Europe, VinoChallenge '08 is leading the way with Web-based global communication, panel-specific computer-produced judging materials, and prompt reporting of results both to the wineries and to our network of over 400 print media contacts. Thank you for your confidence and support this year.

JUDGING will commence on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008, and continue until all entries have been judged. Judging will be conducted SINGLE-BLIND, by experienced judges (consisting of both consumers and qualified wine professionals). Four Directors and a Chief of Judges manage the VinoChallenge International. The Directors are responsible for all aspects of the competition. The Chief of Judges will schedule and supervise all judges, answering all questions whenever possible and appropriate. The Chief of Judges also has the responsibility of having a wine rejudged whenever the original bottle is deemed to be flawed in any manner, or, with the concurrence of the Directors, for other appropriate reasons. Wines will be judged ONLY with similar wines from the same country AND price range (i.e. $10 and under, $10.01 - $15, $15.01 - $20, $20.01 - $30 $30.01 - $50, and over $50).
GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE Awards will be given. Each wine will be judged on its own merits for typicity, considering its type AND style, NOT according to a judge’s personal likes and dislikes. Age worthiness and potential for development may also be criteria.
All GOLD MEDAL winning wines will be considered for BEST OF TYPE within their world growing region (North and Latin America, Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, Southern Hemisphere and Asia). The specific types are RED, WHITE, BLANC DE NOIR, SPARKLING, FORTIFIED, DESSERT and WINE NOT MADE FROM GRAPES. Additionally, All GOLD MEDAL winning wines will be considered for additional awards:
Best RED, Best WHITE, Best ROSE, Best SPARKLING, Best FORTIFIED, Best DESSERT and Best WINE NOT MADE FROM GRAPES. These SEVEN categories are open to USA wines, with a second set offered to IMPORTED wines.
A single wine will be chosen as BEST OF COMPETITION from all winners of these additional awards.
In addition, a BEST WINE from Southeastern grapes will also be awarded. Wines from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are eligible.
Other superlative awards may be given, depending on the concentration of entries from emerging geographic areas.
Non-winning wines will not be made public. All wineries having a GOLD MEDAL winning wine will receive a certificate for a FREE ENTRY into the 2009 VinoChallenge International.
All results will be made available BEFORE THE END OF OCTOBER 2008. Non-winning wines will not be made public.
Each winery that receives a GOLD MEDAL will receive a certificate for one FREE ENTRY into VinoChallenge International 2009.
Wines will be stored in a secure area at the judging site, VinoChallenge International will not (nor will its stall or any independent subcontractors) be responsible for any theft, vandalism or accidental breakage. The competition entrant expressly waives and releases any and all claims related to such loss or damage.
GEORGIA LAW FORBIDS THE SHIPPING OF WINE ENTRIES DIRECTLY TO VinoChallenge International . On the other hand, the shipment of wines directly to a Georgia Wholesaler is not in conflict with any Georgia Laws. Federal Law prohibits the shipment of wine through the U.S. Postal Service.
The State of Georgia Department of Revenue has reviewed the judging and shipping procedures employed by the Atlanta International Wine Challenge, and has determined that they violate NO laws of the State of Georgia.
