The NorthWest Wine Summit (NWWS) is conducted with these goals and purposes:

To provide producers and exporters a professional assessment of their wines by judges who are in the wine trade in North America;E
To give those influential in the wine trade from other areas of North America a first-hand working knowledge of the quality and potential of the wines of the Pacific Northwest;E
To identify wines of special merit for the benefit of consumers and the trade;E
To invest in the future of wine making in the Pacific Northwest by funding educational programs in the form of scholarships and/or outright grants;E
To support educational or charitable activities by donating unused bottles for fund-raising auctions.The NorthWest Wine Summit is open to all types of wines and spirits made or produced in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Alberta and British Columbia.
A producer can enter as many wines as desired, so long as each product entered is either currently available for retail sale, or scheduled for release in 2009/2010, in commercial quantities.
The NorthWest Wine Summit may change, for the sake of accuracy, the category listed on any entry.
Panels drawn from qualified members of the wine trade will judge all entries single-blind. The NorthWest Summit Director shall supervise the overall conduct of the competition. With other expert advice, the Director may order the rejudging of a wine if it is deemed faulted, or for any other appropriate reasons.
NorthWest Wine Summit awards will be announced in May, 2009 after the completion of the judging.
Both awards and trophies (if any) and will be mailed to each entrant shortly thereafter.
No list of non-winning wines will be announced or published
The following awards are offered by the NorthWest Wine Summit:E
Gold, for role-model examples;E Crystal Rose Award, chosen from among all gold medal winners for the entry deemed the best in each of eight major categories: red, white, sparkling, rosé /blush/blanc de noir, non-fortified dessert, fortified, fruit/berry wines and spitits.
E Special trophies may be awarded. These will be given to those entries that the judges deem to be the overall best examples of style and type. The trophies are by state or Province:
Mount Hood Award - Oregon wines
Borah Peak Award - Idaho wines
Mount Rainier Award - Washington wines
Mount Fairweather Award - British Columbia wines
Granite Peak - Montana wines
Denali - Alaska wines
Mount Columbia - Alberta wines

Three superlative awards (first granted in 1998) will be continued in 2009:Best Value White Wine Award
Best Value Red Wine Award
The TOM STOCKLEY Winery of Distinction Award, will be given to the
winery whose total entries showed the best, overall. A minimum of three
entries is required for this award.
E The Leon Adams Award (named after the late wine chronicler and author), a single overall sweepstakes award, will be chosen from among the Crystal Rose Award winners.

Suggested deadline for receipt of all entry forms, from either US or Canadian contestants, is April 24, 2009.

Competitors should submit three (3) 750-ml. (or larger) bottles for each entry, or four (4) 375-ml. bottles.E
All cartons should be marked: "SUMMIT JUDGING. NOT FOR SALE."E
Do NOT send any wines to the NorthWest Wine Summit address in Atlanta. ( Delivery of any wines by the U.S. Postal Service is illegal.)E

Canadian competitors: The British Columbia Wine Institute has again offered to assist in the consolidation of a shipment of all Canadian VQA wines to Timberline. The NorthWest Wine Summit has the approval of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC).Wines delivered to the judging site will be stored in a secured area at Timberline, but neither the NorthWest Wine Summit nor Timberline Lodge nor any of its staff members shall be liable for security of wines from theft, vandalism or other causes. Competitors expressly waive and release any claim related to such loss or damage.
